Nursery explore Pirate Theme 

This half term we have enjoyed a pirate theme in Nursery and here is some of the fantastic learning we have been doing!

Firstly, we pretended to be Pirates and went aboard our new Pirate Ship and a discovered maps and telescopes. (EAD)

Then we made our own maps to help us find the treasure! We tried really hard to hear the sounds in the words we wanted to add to our maps. (PD/L)

We searched for gold coins in the sand and some of us were able to recognise and order them (M). 

We made message in bottles (L).

And practiced writing letters in the sand (PD/L).

A bottle with a message in was left in Nursery by a Rough Tough Pirate and we all had a go at getting it out . . . 

We tipped it upside down and shook it . . . 

. . .  we tried to use different tools to get it out . . . 

. . .  we tried to pull it out!

And when we finally got it out . . . it was a treasure map! (CL/UW)

Once we'd found the treasure, we helped to count the jewels and wrote down how many we found (M).

We also got creative and made some Pirate ship collages. We looked and felt the different materials and thought of words to describe them. Then we used the 'rough' sand paper for sand, the 'soft' and 'fluffy' cotton wool for clouds and the 'shiny' gold paper for treasure (EAD).

Next Term 

We will be learning about mini-beasts, in particular caterpillars becoming butterflies and all about plants and flowers and how we can help them grow. You can support your child at home by involving them in gardening and talking about why we water plants and searching for bugs and insects in your garden or at the park!

Exploring Space in Nursery

This term we have been learning about space. We've loved going on adventures in our rocket!

We've drawn some amazing space pictures. 

Explored Alien glop! 

We made models of rockets. 

One afternoon a box was delivered to Nursery and we asked if we could turn it into a rocket.

And we watch videos from the International Space Station.

Our next theme will be Superheroes! 

Nursery Rhyme Family Cafe!

We enjoyed our first Family Cafe this week at Nursery. Our theme was nursery rhymes and we enjoyed teaching our grown ups the songs we like to sing at nursery.

 

We decorated pictures from our favourite nursery rhymes!

The wheels on the bus go round and round!

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 . . . . Once I caught a fish alive!

We also made hand print fish.

  

Some of us got a little messy!

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea . . .

 

This week . . .

This week, it's Children in Need so the children will be dressed in pyjamas or spotty outfits and our Family Cafe theme will be Teddy Bears. We look forward to seeing you there!

Settling in at Nursery

 All of the children have settled in to Nursery and the new term really well and have been busy exploring all of the exciting learning experiences we have to offer.

We set up our own Bowling Alley outside!

Playing in the Mud Kitchen.

We've been doing lots of mark-making and name writing.

We painted pictures of ourselves and put them up on the wall. Come and have a look!

Traditional Tales

We have been exploring traditional tales and began by reading The Three Little Pigs. We had a go at building our own houses for the three little pigs out of straw, sticks and bricks! We decided that bricks were the best material to build a house from because the Big Bad Wolf couldn’t blow it down no matter how hard he huffed and puffed!

The children loved reading The Gingerbread Man and following the story some of us made our own gingerbread men and we all got to try one!

We enjoyed Goldilocks and the Three Bears too and played with some porridge that was ‘just right!’.

Playing in the rain

Last week we got on our wet weather gear and wellies and splashed about in the puddles before going to get dry and warm and listen to a story.
