Nursery Sports Day

Thank you to all the parents and family members that came to enjoy and support their children at Sports Day. We had a great time and hope you did too!

Butterflies!

When we arrived at nursery on Monday our butterflies had emerged from their cocoons. We were all very excited and wanted to have a close look.

We found out that they like to eat flowers and fruit.

On Wednesday it was time to let the butterflies go! We were a little sad to see them go and although we will miss them we were also very excited about letting them free to have lots of adventures!

Nursery Caterpillars . . . 

This week we have watched our caterpillars as they have grown bigger and bigger! The children have loved watching them and noticing the changes.

They've started their transformation and early next week should become butterflies.

 We can't wait!

Caterpillars arrive in Nursery

We had a very exciting arrival in Nursery last week . . .  5 tiny caterpillars!

We looked very closely at them and thought they looked 'spikey'.

We had lots of questions about them and looked in books to try and find out more about them.

We will watch them grow and can't wait until they turn into Beautiful Butterflies!

Nursery explore Pirate Theme 

This half term we have enjoyed a pirate theme in Nursery and here is some of the fantastic learning we have been doing!

Firstly, we pretended to be Pirates and went aboard our new Pirate Ship and a discovered maps and telescopes. (EAD)

Then we made our own maps to help us find the treasure! We tried really hard to hear the sounds in the words we wanted to add to our maps. (PD/L)

We searched for gold coins in the sand and some of us were able to recognise and order them (M). 

We made message in bottles (L).

And practiced writing letters in the sand (PD/L).

A bottle with a message in was left in Nursery by a Rough Tough Pirate and we all had a go at getting it out . . . 

We tipped it upside down and shook it . . . 

. . .  we tried to use different tools to get it out . . . 

. . .  we tried to pull it out!

And when we finally got it out . . . it was a treasure map! (CL/UW)

Once we'd found the treasure, we helped to count the jewels and wrote down how many we found (M).

We also got creative and made some Pirate ship collages. We looked and felt the different materials and thought of words to describe them. Then we used the 'rough' sand paper for sand, the 'soft' and 'fluffy' cotton wool for clouds and the 'shiny' gold paper for treasure (EAD).

Next Term 

We will be learning about mini-beasts, in particular caterpillars becoming butterflies and all about plants and flowers and how we can help them grow. You can support your child at home by involving them in gardening and talking about why we water plants and searching for bugs and insects in your garden or at the park!
